Startup Tutorial Empty

affraid Welcome to the startup tutorial. Please read it ALL the way through before posting questions because chances are your question will be answered at some point before you get to the bottom. This guide will show you step by step how to set up your WoW client to use our private server.

**It's usually a good idea to backup your Game Folder before you make changes and start deleting stuff. At least if you mess up you can start again or just grab the files from there. A good way to do this is to use WinRAR or WinZIP to make an archive of the file and keep it somewhere it won't be tampered with. For full instructions on how to create an archive, click here.**

Reverting from Patch 3.1
This is IMPERATIVE. You CAN NOT play on our server if you have not done this step. I repeat, you CAN NOT play on our server if you have not done this step.

There are THREE different methods of doing this. I'll go over the easiest first, because chances are a lot of you will be able to follow it without incident.

METHOD ONE
1. Navigate to your game folder. This is probably something like C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\. Some of you may have a different path (if the game is stored on a different hard drive or on a network, for example), and if worst comes to worst, you can always just do a system search for your Wow.exe and go to that folder.

2. There will be a folder in there named "Data". Go into this folder and find the patch.MPQ[b] file and delete it.

3. Go back into the main folder and find the [b]Repair.exe
and UNCHECK all the boxes. Then click the "Check Files Only" option.

4. Once it's finished checking all your files, it will automatically start patching your game. You have to somewhat pay attention to this because you have to STOP patching once you've completed 3.09. (If you start patching a little bit into a later patch, don't worry, it will delete the files once you cancel it.)

**You can (and probably should) check to make sure you have to correct patch by opening your game and looking in the bottom left corner.**

5. Move on to the Setting Your Realmlist step.

METHOD TWO
1. Navigate to your game folder, and in your Data folder, move the files expansion-speech-*.MPQ, lichking-speech-*.MPQ and speech-*.MPQ to somewhere else (or you can put them in an archive with WinRAR/ZIP.. the files just can't be in the Data folder)

2. Run the Repair.exe[b] in the main WoW folder.

3. Go back into the main folder and find the [b]Repair.exe
and UNCHECK all the boxes. Then click the "Check Files Only" option.

4. Wait for it to finish checking all your files. Once it's finished, move the three speech files (expansion-speech-*.MPQ, lichking-speech-*.MPQ and speech-*.MPQ) back to the Data folder.

5. Patch up to 3.09 and double check your client when it's finished. (Check the Release version in your login screen).

METHOD THREE
Lucky you, you get to do this the most frustrating way humanly possible Smile
1. Uninstall WoW completely. You're going to have to start from scratch.

2. Reinstall and make sure to pay attention to your Patcher so you don't over-patch. You need to make SURE you stop once 3.09 is complete. (If you start patching a little bit into a later patch, don't worry, it will delete the files once you cancel it.)

Now that you have a downgraded copy of WoW, I highly suggest making another backup folder in case something gets corrupt/broken. MAKE SURE if you do this, though, to make it very obvious which BACKUP is which.

Now on to...
Setting Up Your Realmlist
Alright this is fairly simple and should only take a minute. In your Data folder, there is a file name "realmlist.wtf". Right-click and select "Open With..." and select NOTEPAD from the list.

**Remember to make a backup of this file in case you want to play retail again. You can do this easily by going into the File menu and selecting "Save As..." and naming it something like "Retail". You can save it somewhere like your desktop or somewhere where you will remember it. I'm not sure if it's ok to save it in the Data folder directly, I always change mine manually.**

Once you have the file open in Notepad there should be 4 lines:

set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set realmlistbn ""
set portal us

Change it so it looks like this:

set realmlist 67.159.49.54
set patchlist 67.159.49.54
set realmlistbn ""
set portal us

Save and you're done!! You can now log in to OhWow.http://ohwowtemp.roflforum.net/general-f1/using-archives-to-create-backups-t6.htmclick here
